California POST certification actions, statewide

California’s Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) publishes a list of peace officers whose certification has been acted on. This page counts that list for the whole state, one line per kind of action, using POST’s own names for them. Source: POST’s Peace Officer Certification Actions page, read on 2026-10-13 for the definitions and notices below.

This is a statewide count. It is deliberately not shown for any single agency. POST’s list is a list of named officers, and it carries this footnote, reproduced verbatim:

*"Last Employing Agency" is not necessarily the reporting agency or the agency where the serious misconduct occurred.

A count on a department’s page would therefore state something the publisher itself says its list does not show, so no department page here carries one and this page does not break the counts down by agency. This site also publishes no officer names.

This is one of several datasets this site holds and limits on purpose. The others, and the reason in each case, are listed on what this site holds back.

Totals by action type

Each line counts officers whose current listed action is that type, but the lines do not cover the same period, and the last column says what each one covers. The count comes from POST’s main list plus its archive back to 2023-01-01. POST keeps some kinds of listing on the main list only briefly and some for as long as they are active (its own wording is quoted below the table), so a line whose window is a trailing 90 days must not be compared with a line that is cumulative since 2023. Neither can be read as a rate or a trend. The action types are separate statuses, and they are not added together on this page: there is no single “decertifications” figure here, because the lines do not mean the same thing. Of the action types below, only Revoked and Surrendered are terminal; POST defines a revocation as permanent and says a surrender “has the same effect of a revocation in that it cannot be reactivated.” No other line should be read as a final outcome.

Action type (POST’s wording)OfficersWhat the count covers
Revoked214Cumulative: main list plus archive, which reaches back to 2023-01-01
Surrendered206Cumulative: main list plus archive, which reaches back to 2023-01-01
Temporary Suspension154Main list, per POST: stays there as long as it is active; a replaced one shows its replacement instead
Ineligible137Cumulative: main list plus archive, which reaches back to 2023-01-01
Withdrawn by Order of Executive Director6Trailing 90 days only: POST keeps it on the main list for 90 days and does not list it in the archive
Conditional Certification4Main list for the duration, then the archive from 90 days after it ends: spans both
Suspension1Main list for the duration, then the archive from 90 days after it ends: spans both

These figures are a floor, not a full count. 4 officers were left out because the current action could not be stated reliably. 1 of them has a same-day supersession (an action replaced by another dated the same day) that POST’s list showed the same way every time, so which of the two is current cannot be told from the list; the other 3 were returned differently between requests for the same list. 231 listed rows carried a struck-through, superseded action; only the current action is counted, and the struck-through one is not. The count is of POST’s list as it stood when it was loaded on 2026-10-09; it is not updated live.

How long POST keeps a listing on its main list

These paragraphs are on the same POST page, below the definitions, and explain why the lines above cover different periods. They are reproduced verbatim, including the missing word in the sentence about withdrawn suspensions, which is POST’s.

Most listings on this page will be archived after 90 days from the date of the most recent action. To search for listings or actions older than 90 days, please visit the Peace Officer Certification Actions Archive page.

Active certification actions such as immediate temporary suspensions (ITS), conditional certifications, and suspensions ordered by the Commission will remain on the main page as long as they are active.

Immediate Temporary Suspensions (ITS): If the ITS is replaced by another certification action, the most current action will remain available on the main page for 90 days before being moved to the Peace Officer Certification Actions Archive page. All previous actions will be listed on the Peace Officer Certification Actions Archive page. If the ITS is withdrawn by the Executive Director, it will remain only on the main page for 90 days will not be listed on the Archives page.

Conditional Certifications: These listings remain on this main page for the duration of the conditional certification. They are moved to the archives 90 days after the conditional certification ends.

Commission-Ordered Suspensions: These listings remain on this main page for the duration of the suspension. They are moved to the archives 90 days after the suspension ends.

The count on this page was built from the main list together with the archive, which reaches back to 2023-01-01. The database holds only the aggregate, not which list each counted officer came from, so the windows in the table are POST’s rules applied to each action type, not a count made per window.

POST’s own accuracy notice

POST publishes this notice on the same page as the list, reproduced verbatim:

POST is aware that there are issues affecting the accuracy of a peace officer's certification status as listed on this page. We are actively working to resolve this issue. Until this matter is resolved, questions regarding a listed peace officer's current status may be directed to the Certification Bureau at certificates@post.ca.gov.

Decertification Type Definitions

POST’s own definitions, reproduced verbatim from the section of that page with this heading. POST gives no definition under that heading for “Withdrawn by Order of Executive Director” or “Conditional Certification” as an entry of its own, and Police Census does not supply one.

Ineligible - An individual has been disqualified from eligibility to be a peace officer based on a disqualifying event as set forth in Government Code section 1029.

Revoked - The peace officer has been decertified and may not exercise the duties and powers of a peace officer. A revocation is permanent, and the certification shall not be reactivated.

Voluntary Surrender or Surrender - A person who holds a certificate issued by the commission, knowingly and willingly, returns the certificate to the commission, forfeiting all rights and privileges associated with that certificate. A “surrender” has the same effect of a revocation in that it cannot be reactivated.

Immediate Temporary Suspension or Temporary Suspension - The immediate suspension of a peace officer’s certification, pending the outcome of an investigation related to allegations of serious misconduct, pursuant to Penal Code section 13510.8(d). The “temporary suspension” may be issued under the following circumstances:

Suspension - a disciplinary action of the Commission wherein a peace officer certification has been suspended for a specified period of time, not to exceed three years. A peace officer whose certification has been suspended may not be assigned duties which include the exercise of peace officer powers.

What this page does not do

It does not name any officer, attribute any action to any department, or add the action types into one number. The database behind it stores no officer name. For the full published list, with names, use POST’s own page.
